Cangrejeros de Santurce secured a thrilling victory over the Gigantes de Carolina-Canóvanas with a score of 85-84 in an intense matchup of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) held at the Carlos Miguel Mangual Coliseum. This win improves the Cangrejeros' record to 13-14, moving them up to fourth place in Conference A, while the Gigantes remain in third place with a 15-12 record.
The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, as the Gigantes held a 16-point lead at one point. However, Santurce showcased their tenacity and managed to close the gap, coming within just one point in the final seconds of the game. Tremont Waters, who was pivotal in the Gigantes' offense, was fouled and sent to the free-throw line, where he made both attempts, bringing the score to 85-80 in favor of the visitors.
In an attempt to tie the game, Waters missed a long-range shot, but Daniel Rivera grabbed the rebound and scored, narrowing the gap for the Cangrejeros. This prompted coach David Rosario to call a timeout to organize his offensive strategy. After the timeout, the Gigantes stole the ball and quickly moved to their offensive zone, but they failed to capitalize on their final play, missing their shot with just 3.9 seconds left.
Jaylen Nowell was the standout for the Gigantes, scoring 33 points, followed by Tremont Waters with 13 and George Conditt with 12. Hunter Tyson, in his return to the court, contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds. On the Cangrejeros' side, Davon Jefferson led the offense with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Ian Clark added 19 points and DJ Wilson contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds.
With this victory, Cangrejeros de Santurce are preparing for their next matchup, looking to continue their positive streak. The Gigantes, on the other hand, will travel to Caguas to face the Criollos at the Coliseo Roger Mendoza del Valle del Turabo on Tuesday at 8:00 PM.
